Mine was in a park, while having a picnic. There were birds and squirrels watching intently. The wait wasn’t as long as I had expected, but it was long enough to let the anticipation build up inside of me until I could barely control myself when the time finally came. It was a bit messy, but I was prepared, for I had dreamt of this moment for years. It was everything a little boy dreams about at night, and to top it all off, it was cheaper than I had expected!
I am talking, of course, about my first Poutine! I know, I totally had you fooled into thinking it was something else!
On a recommendation from a friend who lived in Montréal for years, I got take-away from La Banquise (ordered in French, #boom) and ate it in the Parc la Fountaine with a Belle Gueule beer. While I am sure that the amazing mixture of fries, gravy and cheese curds might be better suited for a cold Canadian winter’s evening than a hot afternoon in August with 90% humidity, I still thoroughly enjoyed it.
Poutine is one of those “can’t miss” things in Canada, specifically Québec, so if you are looking for a hearty meal, find some and dig in!
